Moscow 867 years

If you do not know about the celebration you get amazed. For us we were in a way even we stayed in Moscow this time last years. This year we had been noticed by our Russian teacher that the celebration was on. One reason we had an indication was the enormous activity last week in front of the Bolshoi Theater.

We did not know when it was to happen, we expected late night Saturday and so it was, but with so many people out in the city this day from early morning to late night to early morning again (we could hear through our bed room window) there was real celebration going on.

Some of the main street was closed off. Like Tverskaya was closed with security at Pushkin Square. So people could enjoy the 10 lines, 5 each direction, not used for traffic this weekend. Yes the celebration was for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday we had some smaller shopping to do when we discovered the challenge to enter Red Square. So by coincident we noticed that something would take place at Tverskay. We stopped like many locals had along the fence to see what was coming. At Tverskaya it was the Military Tattoo participant that had their parade. Next year we can just stay home and enjoy the parade coming down Petrovka along with TSUM and Bolshoi Theater.

Sunday we were heading to a sport shop to find some gym equipment. Unfortunatly over the last 6 months the shop had closed. Indicating we could head home through Gorky Park and Park Kultury. The celebration was on here too. When we came to Park Kultury it was time for coffee and we had fun feeding the sparrows.

In Park Kultury it is always a lot of statues on display. With the large house of artist as part of the park it is a natural place for display.

The walk home was along the river up to Tverskaya again and new events to view. One thing comes to mind. We need to make a list of all the different celebrations so we can guide our visitors when they should come. Obvious the first weekend in September is good timing as Moscow is on display that weekend.

Different activities took place at Tverskaya, most people should have their pictures taken either as a selfie or along with the sign of the city age. A street painter used the canvas as dresses and models walked around smiling.

On days like this weekend it is not possible NOT love MOSCOW. Saturday we was at our usual restaurant and even the waiter had a busy time she at the whole time had a smile on her face like all people had in the sunshine.

UPDATE FROM MOSCOW

I have not been good to follow up all the experiences I have had I Moscow, so maybe it is time for one, now when we are back from summer vacation and missed out on the heat wave. It was perfect temperature in Lucca and it is prefect temperature in Moscow these days when we are back. In the forecast there is no new heat wave predicted.
Rent a Bike ?

Local summer restaurant

One thing is for sure with Moscow, it never stop surprise us. Time after time it has a new festival. Winter, Easter, Summer, you name it and they find a reason to have a festival. It could be in the streets where there is space for it or in one of the many parks.
Face painting ??

Honey ??

What I have seen this time is appreciation of harvest, honey and strawberries.
Scary ?? Big Bees in Moscow

Need big Jar for all the honey

A tall Russian strawberry girl

And a big Sand Castle

Over the last 6 months so many good memories have been put in the files for storage and to be used when we are to look back on memories.
People in Moscow read a lot in public places

And enjoy ice cream as everyone else

One of the reasons I have told myself, always bring a camera, you never know what you pop into when you walk the streets of Moscow.
Easter....

Children Day

Pushkins Birthday

The amount of cultural activities impress us, and make us enjoy Moscow, even the activity level is high and city have its own speed than living in the country side in Italy. All these cultural experiences make you lower your shoulders and enjoy life and try to catch each moment.

In addition to all this, 17th of May have to go into the collection of events, with children’s event first, a large buffet, and enjoy meeting other Norwegians on this day.

Then we have all the parks. There is nothing better on a sunny Sunday to take the Metro to the closest station and enjoy one of Moscow’s many parks.
Chess in the park

Time to relax

So now, the beginning of our second year in Moscow we can lean back and look at the list of what we did not do the first year to ensure that we have done some more of the things we wanted to do in Moscow before we leave sometime in the future. Circus, Bolshoi Theater, more concerts, more museums the list is long. I will make sure to bring the camera and capture some more of our experiences along the road and be better to write the stories for all to see and experience with us.

Time to dress up with wool

And it should be double layer. This maybe not indicate that Moscow have charm, but we have seen that even with a temperature between minus 10 and minus 20 degree C this city have charm.

It could be that our eyes see all in from a different angel and that we are European at heart, but have the cold winter gives also the light a possibility to play with the colors of the buildings around so much warmth that is a joy to have the stroll around.

Yes, you need your double layer of wool. Or as many here in Moscow use, a large, down to the ankle fur, and looking ahead on the forecast it sure is needed. Many today maybe would react on the use, but here in Moscow it is needed. I am sure there is no other city that has so many shops that sale fur than Moscow.

You will find them in many price levels. Depend on the type of fur you look for, but you must expect a minimum of $ 5000 USD for one made of lamb and reach almost down to your ankles and have a hood. Hood is something also needed. It makes the wind chill stay away and keep your cheeks not get that itchy feeling that the wind at times gives.

It is noted that we live in a country used with this cold weather and as Norwegians we adapt to it rather quickly. We were skeptical to the move from Houston to Moscow. This time a year we may see Houston with a nice 15 to 20 degree C, but unexpected also due to that Russia do not have summertime changes the adaption of the Russian winter have gone more smoothly than expected. What I can say now is that we love Moscow in the autumn and what we have seen so far of the winter we love that too. Even the fake clouds made by the power generation plants and the plants that make the central heating system in Moscow.

I do not think it was because of winter I got me a surprise on the way home walking my wife to the Metro this morning. Just outside where we live, on the sidewalk, a damaged car. It takes 8 minutes down to the station so within the time frame of 15 minutes this accident happens. It could have happen as we passed it to the station or me coming back home.

It is noted as well that most accidents happens by running into a car in front of you. I have done it so I know all about it, but this one when the street is not busy at all, just have to say, stupid guy. Wake up and I am sure he did when he (and I expect is it a man) made the connection with the car in front of him.

Do as me to wake up, a 15-20 minute walk in the morning, in the winter chill of Moscow make me wake up and start the day. I will stay away from driving in Moscow, could be hit by a guy in the back.
